This post might be of interest and useful for teaching, outreach, and promoting understanding of how the US regulatory system works with respect to animal research. It is not uncommon that members of the public, including students, believe that there are no federal laws, regulation, or oversight of research with rats, mice, and birds. That is obviously not true, but is a myth that can be difficult to counter. It is an important point to address in order to have accurate and informed public views.
The Global 3Rs Awards program will recognize significant innovative contributions toward the 3Rs of animal research to advance ethical science by any researcher (nominated author, principal investigator, or research team leader), in academia or industry in any area of biology (e.g., basic science, discovery, development, teaching, testing, manufacture for new medicines, vaccines, medical devices or healthcare products for humans and animals).
