Programs and Services
IACUC Training Workshops are one-day workshops created by SCAW to train members of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUCs) and others involved with research animals. Training is recommended by USDA guidelines, PHS policy and AAALAC guidelines. The format lets small groups discuss specific, complex topics that are relevant to IACUC functions. Please visit the SCAW website for more information on upcoming workshops.
SCAW also sponsors an educational Winter Conference and some Seminars/Workshops each year. SCAW will continue to be a major source for fulfilling the training requirements stated in USDA/APHIS/AC Policy 15 that states ”IACUC members should be trained in understanding the Animal Welfare Act, protocol review and facility inspections.”
The SCAW Newsletter includes topics likes: national polices, how to comply, industrial concerns, bio-medical research issues in all research animals, book reviews and information on national association meetings.
SCAW also has many Publications on the humane care and use of research animals. A few of which are listed below:
- Revision of SCAW’S Research Animal
- The Well being of Animals in Zoo and Aquarium Sponsored Research (New)
- Performance Standards and Animal Welfare: Definition Application and Assessment Parts I & II
- Genetic Engineering and Animal Welfare: Preparing for the 21st Century
SCAW has provided an invaluable forum in which we can voice its views and has the opportunity to share in the development of standards with other members of SCAW and the greater scientific community.
